Turkish Coffee - Ottoman Style

A good Turkish coffee should be boiled for 15-20 minutes over low flame. The coffee pot should be watched carefully and be withdrawn from the flame several times before it boils over.


A teaspoon full of coffee should go into the coffee pot for each cup of coffee. The amount of sugar may change according to taste. Two spoons of sugar would normally make medium. And a Turkish coffee without froth would not be acceptable at all. Service of the coffe would be in a ceremonial ambiance. It should be served with a glass of water. And while carrying it to the guest it shouldn''t be spilled over. And another very common tradition is.. after the coffee is finished one can read the fortune of the person who has drunk the coffee, in the grounds of his/her coffee.
